Chief of Police
The Town of Reading recently concluded its assessment of applicants for the position of Chief of Police. The RPD's current Deputy Chief, Mark Segalla, was selected and will take command of the Department on January 1st 2016.
The Reading Police Department recently left the Civil Service system and is now a Non-Civil Service Department. We give our own entrance examination and conduct our own applicant interviews and background checks. The Department held its latest Reading Police Officer Entrance Exam on November 7, 2015 at the Reading Memorial High School. Candidates' test scores were processed. If you are a candidate and have yet to receive your test score, please contact Police Exam Solutions directly at (781) 645-6005. Resumes and application packages for those who passed the test are currently being evaluated. Candidates are advised that the Department will be in contact with you regarding next steps.
The Reading Police Department recently hired several new candidates for Public Safety Dispatcher. There are no current openings, but please check back often for information regarding this challenging and rewarding opportunity to serve as the communications backbone in our emergency response system. Crossing Guards serve our local school population by facilitating the safe passage of pedestrians through intersections surrounding our elementary and middle schools. Crossing Guards have the serious responsibility of maintaining safe crossings and educating children, parents and drivers.
